Mt. Pleasant Elementary students have been hard at work on honing their reading skills. Students enjoyed visits from surprise guest readers, a live author read-aloud, and station reading including buddy reading, reading to a stuffy, and flashlight reading.
Students have been tracking their minutes spent reading in school and independently at home each for the last four weeks, or “quarters,” of the READBowl competition, a nationwide reading competition sponsored by a prior NFL player. In the competition, students of all ages log and track minutes spent reading. To accomplish this, students participated in a full day in-school Read-a-Thon to experience the many types of ways one can get lost in a book.
Together, Ms. Wilcox and Ms. Carson’s students read a total of 80,994 minutes!
